What currency was introduced in Afghanistan in 1925 to replace the Afghan rupee?
Answer
Afghan afghani
Answer
Afghan afghani
The currency introduced in Afghanistan in 1925 to replace the Afghan rupee was the Afghan afghani.
The afghani was introduced during the reign of Amanullah Khan as part of monetary reforms intended to create a distinct national currency. It replaced the Afghan rupee, which had circulated in Afghanistan and was divided into smaller units called paisa.
The name afghani derives from “Afghan,” a term used for the people and country. It should not be confused with the Afghani language name or with historical rupees used in nearby South Asian monetary systems.
Afghanistan has issued more than one version of the afghani. A major redenomination took place in 2002, when the new afghani replaced the old afghani at a rate of 1 new afghani for 1,000 old afghanis.
