What character did Beyoncé voice in the 2019 live-action film The Lion King?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé voiced Nala in the 2019 live-action film The Lion King.

The film is a photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney’s 1994 traditionally animated feature. Directed by Jon Favreau, it retells the story of Simba, a young lion who must return to the Pride Lands after his father’s death and confront his uncle Scar.

Beyoncé provided the voice for the adult Nala, Simba’s childhood friend and eventual partner. Donald Glover voiced adult Simba, while Chiwetel Ejiofor voiced Scar and James Earl Jones returned as Mufasa. Beyoncé also contributed music to the film’s associated soundtrack and companion project.

Nala is sometimes confused with Sarabi, Simba’s mother, or Shenzi, one of the hyenas. Beyoncé’s character is the lioness who challenges Simba to reclaim his place and becomes queen beside him.
