What character did Beyoncé portray in Austin Powers in Goldmember?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé portrayed Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers in Goldmember.

Released in 2002, Austin Powers in Goldmember is the third film in the Austin Powers comedy series. Beyoncé made her feature-film debut as Foxxy Cleopatra, an FBI agent and former girlfriend of Austin Powers, played by Mike Myers.

Foxxy is presented as a parody of 1970s blaxploitation and action-film heroines. The character’s name, costume design and confident persona deliberately evoke that era’s popular cinema. Beyoncé also contributed to the film’s music by recording “Work It Out,” which became a single associated with the soundtrack and her early solo career.

The role is easy to mix up with Deena Jones, Beyoncé’s character in the later musical drama Dreamgirls. Foxxy Cleopatra is an original comedy character, while Deena Jones belongs to the fictional singing group at the center of Dreamgirls.
