Lemonade is Beyoncé’s 2016 visual album exploring Black womanhood, family history, and a marriage in crisis.
The project combines twelve songs with a one-hour film divided into chapters such as “Intuition,” “Denial,” and “Redemption.” Its music moves through multiple styles, including R&B, rock, country, blues, and hip-hop, while its imagery draws on African American history and culture.
Lemonade premiered on HBO on April 23, 2016, alongside the album’s release. It received widespread critical acclaim and became Beyoncé’s sixth consecutive number-one album on the Billboard 200. Its themes and visual storytelling led to frequent discussion of its autobiographical elements, but the work is best understood as an artistic project rather than a literal diary.
