Noah’s Ark has a biblical length-to-width aspect ratio of 6 to 1.
Genesis 6:15 gives the ark’s length as 300 cubits and its width as 50 cubits. Dividing 300 by 50 produces a 6:1 ratio. The same verse gives a height of 30 cubits, making the length ten times the height.
This proportion is notable because it describes a long, low vessel. Modern naval architecture recognizes that length-to-width relationships influence stability and resistance, although the Genesis account does not present the measurements as an engineering treatise. It also does not describe a rudder, sails, oars, or a method of steering.
The ratio is sometimes compared with later barge designs, but such comparisons do not prove that the biblical ark was built or that the measurements derive from a surviving boat tradition. They are simply calculations from the dimensions stated in the text. The ratio also depends less on the uncertain modern value of a cubit, since both dimensions use the same unit.
