What are the names of Simba's meerkat and warthog friends?

Simba’s meerkat and warthog friends are Timon and Pumbaa.

The pair meet Simba after he has fled the Pride Lands and collapsed from heat exhaustion. They rescue him, introduce their carefree “hakuna matata” philosophy, and raise him in the jungle. Timon is a quick-talking meerkat, while Pumbaa is a kind-hearted common warthog.

Their friendship is deliberately comic and unrealistic: real warthogs and meerkats would not normally form this kind of partnership, and meerkats generally walk on all fours. The characters were also changed during production. Early plans portrayed them as animals who had grown up with Simba, but the filmmakers revised them into fellow outcasts who could give the young lion a new home.

A common mix-up is confusing them with the hyenas Shenzi, Banzai and Ed, Scar’s allies. Timon and Pumbaa instead become Simba’s loyal companions and help him return to confront Scar.
