Answer
Zuccotti Park
Answer
Zuccotti Park
The #OccupyWallStreet protests began in Zuccotti Park in New York City.
Zuccotti Park is a privately owned public space in Lower Manhattan’s Financial District, close to Wall Street. Occupy protesters selected it after other possible locations were blocked or fenced off, and the park became the movement’s main encampment and organizing site.
The occupation began on September 17, 2011, and lasted until protesters were removed on November 15. Its slogan, “We are the 99%,” captured its focus on economic inequality, corporate power, financial influence, and political corruption. The New York encampment helped inspire Occupy protests around the world.
The park was formerly called Liberty Plaza Park and was renamed Zuccotti Park in 2006. It is sometimes confused with Central Park or other Manhattan protest sites, but Occupy Wall Street’s defining New York camp was in Zuccotti Park, not a traditional municipal park.
