The 2024 #EndBadGovernance protests took place in Nigeria. The demonstrations were a largely decentralized national movement held mainly from 1 to 10 August 2024, although related calls and smaller actions began earlier.
The protests grew out of severe economic pressure, especially rising food prices, inflation, fuel costs, and public anger over reforms introduced under President Bola Tinubu. Two frequently cited policies were the removal of the petrol subsidy and the devaluation of the naira. Organizers and participants used slogans such as “End Bad Governance” and “Days of Rage” to demand relief and political accountability.
The movement was not the same as the 2020 #EndSARS protests, although both were major Nigerian hashtag-driven campaigns involving young people and criticism of government conduct. Demonstrations occurred in cities across Nigeria, and some gatherings became violent amid clashes, arrests, deaths, curfews, and allegations of excessive force. The country is the key identifying fact: the hashtag itself was also commonly written as #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.
