The Forbidden City is located in which Asian country?

The story behind the answer

The Forbidden City is located in which Asian country? China.

The Forbidden City is in Beijing, China, at the heart of the city’s historic imperial district. It served as the principal imperial palace of China’s Ming and Qing dynasties and housed 24 emperors between 1420 and 1924.

Construction began in 1406 under the Ming emperor Yongle and the complex was formally completed in 1420. Its vast layout contains ceremonial halls, residential courts, gardens, gates, and thousands of rooms arranged according to ideas about hierarchy, ritual, and imperial authority. The name refers to the palace’s restricted access: ordinary people could not enter without permission.

After the last emperor’s era, the palace opened as the Palace Museum in 1925. It remains one of the world’s best-preserved imperial palace complexes and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987. The Forbidden City is sometimes confused with the broader Imperial City or with other Chinese landmarks such as the Great Wall, but it is specifically the enormous palace complex in central Beijing.
