The Art Deco district of Miami Beach is primarily located along which street?

The story behind the answer

The Art Deco district of Miami Beach is primarily located along Ocean Drive.

Ocean Drive runs through South Beach beside Lummus Park and the Atlantic Ocean, forming the visual heart of Miami Beach’s famous Art Deco scene. The street is lined with colorful historic hotels, restaurants, neon signs, and Streamline Moderne façades built largely during the 1930s and early 1940s.

The wider Miami Beach Architectural District is larger than Ocean Drive alone. It extends through parts of South Beach and includes buildings on Collins Avenue, Washington Avenue, and connecting streets. Even so, Ocean Drive is the canonical answer because its oceanfront hotel strip is the district’s most recognizable concentration of Art Deco architecture.

Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue are therefore reasonable geographic associations, but they are not the single best answer to this wording. Notable Ocean Drive landmarks include the Colony Hotel, the Carlyle, the Tides, the Cardozo, and the Breakwater. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
