Top of the Rock
Answer
Top of the Rock
The observation deck at 30 Rockefeller Plaza is called Top of the Rock.
The attraction occupies the upper levels of the Art Deco skyscraper at the center of Rockefeller Center. The building itself, originally known as the RCA Building and later the GE Building, was completed in 1933 and is commonly nicknamed “30 Rock.”
Top of the Rock originally opened in the 1930s, offering elevated views across Manhattan, including a particularly famous perspective toward the Empire State Building. The deck reaches about 850 feet above street level and includes observatory spaces on the 67th through 70th floors.
The observation deck closed in 1986 after changes connected with the Rainbow Room disrupted its access. It reopened in 2005 after renovation and was formally known by the modern name Top of the Rock. A common mix-up is confusing it with the Empire State Building’s observatory: both provide skyline views, but Top of the Rock is specifically the deck atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
