The 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend was the fourth time two promoted teams had both won their opening-round matches.
Hull City defeated Manchester United 2–0, and Ipswich Town beat Sunderland 2–1. Both clubs had just been promoted, so each victory counted toward the unusual opening-weekend pattern. Coventry City, the third promoted side, lost 3–0 to defending champions Arsenal.
The achievement was notable because promoted clubs usually face difficult opening fixtures against established Premier League teams. Having two of them win in the same first round is therefore much less common than having one promoted club start with a victory.
The three promoted teams had different recent histories. Coventry returned after 25 years away, Ipswich after one year, and Hull City after nine years. Their mixed results produced two promoted-team wins, enough to create the fourth occurrence of this particular Premier League statistic.
