Rayman Origins is the fourth main installment in the Rayman series.
The numbering refers to the principal platform-game series, not every Rayman-branded spin-off. Before Origins came Rayman, Rayman 2: The Great Escape, and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. Origins therefore occupies the fourth position among the main entries.
Released in 2011, Origins arrived eight years after Rayman 3 and revived the series with a cooperative platforming focus, colorful 2D presentation, and a new story centered on Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies defending the Glade of Dreams. It was developed by Ubisoft Montpellier.
A common source of confusion is Rayman Raving Rabbids, which followed Rayman 3 but is generally treated as a spin-off or separate party-game direction rather than the fourth main platform installment. Rayman Legends followed Origins as the fifth main title in 2013.
