Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade premiered on HBO in 2016.
The hour-long film aired on April 23, 2016, and accompanied the release of Beyoncé’s sixth studio album, Lemonade. The project combines music, poetry, spoken-word passages, and cinematic imagery rather than presenting a conventional collection of separate music videos.
Lemonade is organized into chapters with titles such as “Intuition,” “Denial,” “Anger,” and “Redemption.” Its themes include betrayal, grief, identity, family, Black womanhood, and reconciliation. The album features guest artists including Jack White, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, and James Blake.
The HBO premiere is sometimes confused with the album’s later digital release or with Beyoncé’s later visual projects. Lemonade became her second album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 and was widely recognized for joining an album-length musical work to a unified film narrative.
