On which mountain does the Quran say Noah’s Ark came to rest?

The story behind the answer

The Quran says Noah’s Ark came to rest on Mount Judi.

The statement appears in Quran 11:44, in Surah Hud, during the account of the flood. After the waters are commanded to subside, the verse says the ark settled on al-Judi and that the wrongdoers were removed from mercy.

This differs from the wording of Genesis, which says the ark came to rest on “the mountains of Ararat.” Ararat is therefore associated especially with the Hebrew Bible and later traditions, while Mount Judi is the Quranic location.

Mount Judi is commonly identified with a mountain in southeastern Turkey near the borders of Iraq and Syria. The Quranic reference should not be treated as the same wording as Genesis; the two traditions use different place names and narrative details.
