The 2026–27 Premier League opening round was completed on Monday.
The final fixture was Fulham versus Chelsea at Craven Cottage on Monday 24 August 2026. Chelsea won 3–2, bringing the opening round to a close after matches had already been played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The round therefore extended across four consecutive days. Arsenal versus Coventry City opened the season on Friday, six matches were scheduled on Saturday, three were played on Sunday, and Fulham versus Chelsea completed the programme on Monday.
A common assumption is that an opening Premier League weekend must finish on Sunday. The 2026–27 schedule used a Monday night fixture, making the round longer than the ordinary Friday-to-Sunday span. The Monday match was also a London derby between Fulham and Chelsea.
