On what mountain did the Ark come to rest, according to the Book of Genesis?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, the Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 uses the plural phrase “mountains of Ararat,” rather than naming one specific summit. Ararat is associated with the ancient kingdom or region of Urartu, located around parts of modern eastern Turkey, Armenia, and neighboring areas. The biblical wording therefore describes a mountainous region.

A frequent modern shorthand is “Mount Ararat,” but that is not the exact wording of Genesis. Mount Ararat, the highest peak in Turkey, became especially prominent in later identification traditions. The text itself does not say that the Ark rested on that single peak.
