On what day did Noah enter the Ark, according to Genesis?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah entered the Ark on the 17th day of the second month.

Genesis 7:11–13 supplies the date and then describes Noah, his family, and the animals entering the Ark. The passage places the beginning of the Flood within the chronology of Noah’s six-hundredth year, giving the narrative a precise calendar marker.

This date should not be confused with the date on which the Ark came to rest. Genesis 8:4 gives a separate date for that later event: the 17th day of the seventh month. The two dates are five months apart within the story’s own calendar sequence.

Different religious traditions may calculate or commemorate Flood-related dates differently, but the answer here follows the wording of Genesis. The question concerns the entry into the Ark, not the start of rain alone or the eventual landing.
