November 9, 2004
Answer
November 9, 2004
Halo 2 was released for the original Xbox on November 9, 2004.
Developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios, Halo 2 continued the story of Master Chief after Halo: Combat Evolved. It added a campaign that alternated between Master Chief and the Arbiter, a Covenant Elite character, while expanding the series' universe and weapon selection.
The game was heavily marketed before release and became one of the year's biggest entertainment launches. Its online multiplayer was a major reason for the growth of Xbox Live, allowing players to compete through the original Xbox's online service.
Halo 2 is often confused with Halo 3, which arrived in 2007 for Xbox 360. Halo 2 originally used the first Xbox's hardware, although an anniversary edition with updated visuals, Halo 2: Anniversary, later appeared as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
