Answer
4 February 1966
Disney’s animated short Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree was released on 4 February 1966. It was the first animated featurette in Disney’s Winnie-the-Pooh film series.
The film was directed by Wolfgang Reitherman and produced by Walt Disney Productions. It was released theatrically as a supplement to the live-action film The Ugly Dachshund, rather than as a standalone feature. Its story draws mainly from the first two chapters of Milne’s 1926 book.
The short follows Pooh’s attempts to obtain honey from bees and includes Rabbit’s house as a major setting. Songs by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman helped establish the musical style later associated with Disney’s Pooh productions.
The Honey Tree was later incorporated into The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, released in 1977. Because it was made before Walt Disney’s death in December 1966, it is also notable as the only Pooh production released under his supervision.
