On what date did the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games open in Paris?

The story behind the answer

The 2024 Summer Paralympic Games opened in Paris on 28 August 2024.

The opening ceremony took place outside a traditional stadium, along the Champs-Élysées and at Place de la Concorde. It was the first Summer Paralympic opening ceremony held outside a stadium, giving the public a prominent view of the athletes’ parade through central Paris.

The Games continued through 8 September 2024. Paris 2024 featured 22 sports, including para badminton and para taekwondo, which had both debuted at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. The programme included 549 medal events across the sports.

The Paris Paralympics followed the Olympic Games held in the same city from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Although both events used many of the same venues, their opening dates and ceremonies were separate.
