On what date did Noah enter the Ark when the Flood began, according to Genesis?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah entered the Ark when the Flood began on the 17th day of the second month. Genesis 7:11 identifies the date in Noah’s 600th year, and the following verses describe the Flood beginning after Noah and the animals enter.

The passage also supplies a strikingly detailed chronology: the fountains of the deep burst open, the windows of heaven open, and rain falls for 40 days and 40 nights. Later dates mark the Ark resting, the mountain tops becoming visible, and Noah leaving the Ark.

This date is easy to confuse with other dates in the same account. Genesis 8:14 says the earth was dry by the 27th day of the second month of Noah’s 601st year, nearly a year after the Flood began. The entry date is specifically the 17th day of the second month.
