Answer
December 11, 1972
Apollo 17 made the final crewed landing on the Moon on December 11, 1972.
The lunar module Challenger touched down in the Taurus–Littrow valley at 19:54:57 UTC. Commander Eugene Cernan and lunar module pilot Harrison Schmitt landed, while Ronald Evans remained in lunar orbit aboard the command module America.
Apollo 17 was the only Apollo landing mission with a professional geologist in its crew. Cernan and Schmitt conducted three lunar excursions, used the Lunar Roving Vehicle, and collected samples from a scientifically varied valley containing volcanic and highland materials.
Cernan left the lunar surface on December 14, 1972, becoming the last person to walk on the Moon as of 2026. The mission’s landing remains the latest crewed lunar landing in history.
