On what date did Apollo 11 land the first humans on the Moon?

The story behind the answer

Apollo 11 landed the first humans on the Moon on 20 July 1969.

The lunar module Eagle touched down in the Sea of Tranquility at 20:17:40 UTC. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin then spent about two hours and 31 minutes outside the spacecraft during their first lunar surface expedition.

The date can cause confusion because the landing occurred on 20 July in Coordinated Universal Time, while Armstrong stepped onto the surface at 02:56 UTC on 21 July. In the United States, both events were widely reported as happening on 20 July because of local time zones.

Apollo 11 launched from Kennedy Space Center on 16 July 1969 and returned to Earth on 24 July. Its success fulfilled President John F. Kennedy's goal of landing humans on the Moon and returning them safely before the end of the 1960s.
