#NiUnaMenos began in which country in 2015?
Answer
Argentina
Answer
Argentina
#NiUnaMenos began in Argentina in 2015.
The Spanish phrase means “Not one less” and became the name of a feminist movement opposing gender-based violence and femicide. Argentine journalists, writers, artists, academics, and activists helped bring the slogan into public use during a reading event in Buenos Aires on 26 March 2015.
The movement gained enormous momentum after the murder of 14-year-old Chiara Páez in May 2015. Activists used social media to call for a nationwide demonstration, and on 3 June 2015 hundreds of thousands of people joined protests in Argentina, including a major gathering near the National Congress in Buenos Aires.
The slogan’s roots reach back to Mexican poet Susana Chávez, who used a related phrase while protesting femicides in Ciudad Juárez. Argentina is the correct starting point for the 2015 movement, although #NiUnaMenos soon spread across Latin America and later appeared in protests in countries including Mexico, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, and Spain.
