In Xbox’s Gears of War, what is the name of the planet where the story takes place?

The story behind the answer

The story of Xbox’s Gears of War takes place on the planet Sera.

Sera is the fictional world where humanity fights the subterranean Locust Horde. The original Gears of War begins after years of conflict involving the resource called Imulsion and the political tensions surrounding its control. The planet’s devastated cities, industrial regions, and underground tunnels shape the series’ military-horror atmosphere.

The game follows Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, and Delta Squad as they attempt to repel the Locust invasion. Their campaign combines squad-based gunplay, cover mechanics, and a bleak wartime setting. Later games expand Sera’s history, including the origins of the Locust and the broader Coalition of Ordered Governments.

Sera is often confused with settings from other Xbox science-fiction franchises. Reach is a planet in Halo, while Morrowind is a region in The Elder Scrolls. Sera belongs specifically to the Gears of War universe and should not be confused with the real-world name Sarah.
