In which year was the first Toy Story released?

The story behind the answer

The first Toy Story was released in 1995.

Pixar's debut feature premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on November 19, 1995, before opening in North American cinemas on November 22. It was produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures and directed by John Lasseter.

Toy Story made film history as the first feature-length movie created entirely with computer-generated imagery. Its story follows Woody, a cowboy doll voiced by Tom Hanks, whose position as Andy's favorite toy is challenged when Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tim Allen, arrives.

The year is sometimes confused with 1996 because the film opened in several international markets during 1996, including a screening at the Berlin International Film Festival. However, its original United States theatrical release belongs to 1995. The movie became one of that year's biggest hits and launched a franchise that later included Toy Story 2 in 1999, Toy Story 3 in 2010, and Toy Story 4 in 2019.
