The Fate of the Furious was released in 2017.
Also known as Fast & Furious 8, the film premiered internationally in April 2017. F. Gary Gray directed it, following James Wan’s Furious 7. The story begins with Dominic Toretto being forced to betray his team after Cipher blackmails him.
The film expanded the franchise’s international scope with major sequences in Cuba, New York City, and the Arctic. It also marked the first main-series film released after the death of Paul Walker, whose character Brian O’Conner had been central to the earlier films.
The title can cause confusion because it does not include the number eight in its main title. The film is nevertheless the eighth main installment. It followed Furious 7 (2015) and preceded Hobbs & Shaw (2019), the first theatrical spin-off.
