Hobbs & Shaw was released in cinemas in 2019.
Officially titled Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, the film is the first theatrical spin-off from the main Fast & Furious series. It pairs Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs with Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, two characters who began as adversaries before becoming reluctant allies.
The film was directed by David Leitch and written by Chris Morgan and Drew Pearce. Its story sends Hobbs and Shaw into an international mission involving Brixton Lore, a technologically enhanced operative played by Idris Elba, and a deadly virus connected to Shaw’s sister Hattie.
The movie expanded the franchise beyond street racing and family-centered heists into the style of a globe-trotting buddy action film. It also introduced new characters and locations without being numbered as one of the main saga installments. The title is sometimes shortened informally to Hobbs and Shaw, but its full release title includes the Fast & Furious Presents branding.
