The Ark Encounter attraction opened to the public in 2016.
Ark Encounter is a Christian theme park in Williamstown, Kentucky, centered on a large replica of Noah’s Ark. The attraction opened on July 7, 2016, and was developed by Answers in Genesis, the organization also associated with the Creation Museum in nearby Petersburg, Kentucky.
The replica follows the dimensions given in Genesis: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Its modern construction uses steel and other contemporary materials, even though the biblical text describes Noah building the Ark from gopher wood.
Ark Encounter presents a literalist interpretation of the Genesis Flood narrative. Its claims and educational displays have been debated by scientists, educators, and religious groups, particularly concerning the historicity of a global Flood and the feasibility of housing all animal kinds on one vessel.
