U2 recorded parts of No Line on the Horizon in Fez, Morocco.
The band worked on the album in several locations, including Fez, Dublin, London, and New York. The Moroccan sessions reflected U2's interest in expanding its usual rock palette with unfamiliar rhythms, textures, and musical environments. The album was produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, with Declan Gaffney also involved in production and engineering.
No Line on the Horizon was released in 2009 as U2's twelfth studio album. Its title track and songs such as “Get on Your Boots,” “Magnificent,” and “Breathe” showed the group combining rock songwriting with electronic and atmospheric ideas.
Fez is sometimes confused with Marrakesh because both are internationally prominent Moroccan cities and common destinations for cultural recording projects. The relevant sessions were associated specifically with Fez. The album did not consist solely of Moroccan recordings; its production moved among multiple studios and countries.
