Supreme opened its original shop in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood.
The store opened in 1994 and was designed around New York’s skateboarding culture. SoHo was already known for art galleries, cast-iron architecture and fashionable retail, making it a significant setting for a brand that mixed skate products with limited clothing releases.
Supreme’s first shop differed from a conventional clothing boutique. Its layout allowed skateboarders to ride through the store, reinforcing the brand’s connection to skateboarding and giving the space a distinctive identity. That original retail concept became part of Supreme’s mythology.
The shop’s exact address is 274 Lafayette Street, but the neighborhood is the broader geographic detail. It is also important not to confuse the original SoHo shop with Supreme’s later locations in other parts of New York and overseas.
