In which country was Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! soft launched?

The story behind the answer

Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! was soft launched in Malaysia.

The Android soft launch took place in Malaysia on April 22, 2020, before the game received its worldwide release. At that stage, it used the tentative title Crash Bandicoot Mobile. A soft launch is a limited regional release used to test performance, controls, monetization, and player response before a broader rollout.

The Malaysian test was not the game’s full commercial debut. King later announced the project under its final title, opened pre-registration, and released it globally for Android and iOS in March 2021. The staggered launch gave the developer time to refine the mobile adaptation of Crash’s platforming style, including touch-based movement, collectible ingredients, crafted weapons, and asynchronous multiplayer challenges.

Malaysia is easy to confuse with the game’s worldwide release markets because the title eventually became available across many countries. Japan, Australia, and Canada were among the listed distractors, but the documented initial soft-launch country was Malaysia. The game was ultimately discontinued in 2023 after its servers were shut down.
