In which city was AC/DC formed?
Answer
Sydney
Answer
Sydney
AC/DC was formed in Sydney, Australia, in 1973. Brothers Malcolm and Angus Young assembled the original group there with drummer Colin Burgess, bassist Larry Van Kriedt and vocalist Dave Evans.
The band emerged from Sydney's active pub-rock scene, where hard rock groups built audiences through frequent live performances. Their first official gig took place at Chequers nightclub in Sydney on 31 December 1973. The group recorded its earliest material at EMI Studios in Sydney soon afterward.
A common mix-up comes from the brothers' Scottish background. Angus and Malcolm were born in Glasgow and moved with much of their family to Sydney as children, but AC/DC itself was founded in Australia. The band's origin is therefore Sydney, even though Scotland remained part of the Young family's story.
AC/DC's early lineup changed repeatedly before the band's classic combination of Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Bon Scott, Phil Rudd and Cliff Williams took shape. Their Sydney beginnings launched one of Australia's most internationally successful rock careers.
