In which city is the Dancing House located?

The story behind the answer

The Dancing House is located in Prague, Czech Republic.

Known in Czech as Tančící dům, the building stands on Rašín Embankment beside the Vltava River. It was designed in 1992 by Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in cooperation with Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, then completed in 1996.

Its nickname comes from the building’s two visually contrasting towers. The glass tower, often associated with Ginger Rogers, appears to lean and curve toward the stone tower representing Fred Astaire. Gehry originally used the name “Ginger and Fred,” though the building is now more commonly called the Dancing House.

The site also has an important modern history: an apartment building there was destroyed during the 1945 bombing of Prague. The completed structure became controversial because its deconstructivist form contrasts sharply with Prague’s surrounding Baroque, Gothic, and Art Nouveau architecture. Today it contains offices, a gallery, a restaurant, and a hotel.
