U2 opened the 1997 PopMart Tour in Las Vegas.

The opening concert took place on 25 April 1997 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Nevada. It launched U2’s ambitious worldwide tour in support of the 1997 album Pop.

PopMart was designed as a deliberately oversized spectacle. Its stage featured a giant golden arch, a large video screen, a mirrored lemon, and a massive olive-shaped object. The production combined stadium rock with the satirical advertising imagery associated with the Pop era.

The tour visited cities across North America, Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia. Although the opening show was in Las Vegas, the tour is sometimes associated with Sarajevo because U2 later performed there in September 1997, an event remembered for its postwar significance.
