Giorgio Armani and Sergio Galeotti established Giorgio Armani in Milan in 1975.
Before founding the company, Giorgio Armani worked in several roles in Italian fashion, including as a designer for Nino Cerruti. Sergio Galeotti, his business partner, encouraged him to establish an independent label. Together they created the Giorgio Armani company in Milan, Italy’s major commercial fashion center.
Armani became known for relaxed tailoring, softened jackets, and elegant neutral palettes. His approach changed the appearance of the suit by reducing rigid structure while preserving a polished silhouette. The label later expanded into lines including Emporio Armani, accessories, fragrances, hotels, and home furnishings.
Milan is sometimes confused with Piacenza, where Armani was born, or with other Italian cities associated with fashion production. The company’s founding location was Milan, while the designer’s birthplace was Piacenza.
