In which chapter of Winnie-the-Pooh is Piglet introduced in the text?

The story behind the answer

Piglet is introduced in the text of Winnie-the-Pooh in Chapter III.

Piglet is one of the central characters in A. A. Milne’s 1926 book and is portrayed as a very small, timid animal who repeatedly tries to behave bravely. He is especially close to Pooh and Christopher Robin, and his friendship with Pooh became one of the defining relationships in the series.

The chapter detail can cause confusion because Piglet appears earlier in one of E. H. Shepard’s illustrations, in Chapter II. His actual introduction in Milne’s written narrative comes in Chapter III, so the illustration and text do not give the same first appearance.

Piglet was based on one of Christopher Robin Milne’s stuffed animals. In the original colour illustrations, he wears a green jumper. Disney initially left him out of the 1966 featurette Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, but he returned in the next featurette, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.
