In which chapter of Winnie-the-Pooh does Rabbit first appear?

The story behind the answer

Rabbit first appears in Chapter II of Winnie-the-Pooh.

Rabbit is one of the important inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood, known for being practical, organized and eager to take charge. Unlike Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo and Tigger, Rabbit was not based on one of Christopher Robin Milne’s stuffed toys. Milne created him from his imagination, drawing partly on real animals around the family’s home.

In the books, Rabbit is a living rabbit who walks upright and uses his front paws like hands. He is often associated with planning, rules and elaborate schemes, and he considers himself the smartest animal in the Forest.

Readers sometimes associate Rabbit mainly with his vegetable garden because of Disney’s adaptations. That garden is a prominent part of the Disney version, but it is not described in the same way in Milne’s original books. Rabbit appears repeatedly in both of Milne’s Pooh story collections.
