Tigger first appears in Chapter 2 of A. A. Milne’s The House at Pooh Corner.
The chapter is titled “In Which Tigger Comes to the Forest and Has Breakfast.” Pooh hears a mysterious sound outside his house and discovers the new tiger. Tigger stays with Pooh and later meets other residents of the forest.
Tigger’s energetic personality is established immediately, but the chapter also gives him a comic food problem: he dislikes Pooh’s honey. After trying food offered by Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore, Tigger discovers that he likes an extract of malt at Kanga and Roo’s home.
Tigger is sometimes remembered mainly through Disney’s animated films, but his literary debut is in the 1928 sequel to Winnie-the-Pooh. The character then became one of the best-known members of the wider Pooh franchise.
