In what year were the Eagles formed?

The Eagles were formed in 1971. The American rock band emerged in Los Angeles after Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner came together as musicians in Linda Ronstadt's touring group.

Frey and Henley had met in Los Angeles in 1970, while Leadon and Meisner brought experience from other country-rock and roots-music acts. The four musicians played behind Ronstadt and also appeared on her 1972 solo album before developing their own group. They signed with David Geffen's Asylum Records in September 1971.

The band's first live performance took place in October 1971 in Aspen, Colorado, before their name and identity were fully settled. Their self-titled debut album followed in 1972 and introduced the harmony-rich country-rock sound that became their trademark.

The Eagles later became one of the most successful American bands, with major albums such as 'Hotel California'. They broke up in 1980, reunited in 1994, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
