In which California city did the Eagles form in 1971?

The Eagles formed in Los Angeles in 1971. The original lineup was Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner.

All four musicians had been recruited by Linda Ronstadt for her touring band. They also played on her 1972 self-titled album before starting their own group. Their shared vocal harmonies and country-rock blend quickly attracted the attention of David Geffen, who signed them to Asylum Records.

The band’s Los Angeles origins are sometimes confused with later recording locations or with places associated with their songs. Their debut album, Eagles, was recorded partly in London and released in 1972, but the group itself was formed in Los Angeles. The city remained central to the band’s identity and the broader Southern California rock scene.

The original quartet expanded when Don Felder joined in 1974, and Joe Walsh replaced Leadon in 1975. That lineup helped create the band’s defining mid-1970s sound.
