Bill Szymczyk produced the Eagles albums One of These Nights, Hotel California, and The Long Run. His work with the band helped shape their polished, expansive 1970s sound.
Szymczyk first worked with the Eagles on 1974’s On the Border, taking over production from Glyn Johns. He then became the sole producer of the next three studio albums: One of These Nights in 1975, Hotel California in 1976, and The Long Run in 1979.
Those records trace the Eagles’ rise from successful country-rock group to international superstars. One of These Nights became their first U.S. No. 1 album, Hotel California introduced Joe Walsh and became a landmark bestseller, and The Long Run completed the band’s original studio-album run before their 1980 breakup.
Glyn Johns is an easy source of confusion because he produced the band’s 1972 debut album, Eagles. George Martin and Ted Templeman were also major rock producers, but neither produced this three-album Eagles sequence. Szymczyk was also an engineer and later produced the band’s 2007 album Long Road Out of Eden.
