The story behind the answer

Supreme was founded in New York City in 1994.

The brand began as a skate shop on Lafayette Street in Manhattan, created by James Jebbia. Its early identity combined skateboarding, downtown New York style, and limited-release merchandise.

Supreme is sometimes dated to 1995 because its first skate video, A Love Supreme, appeared that year. However, the company and its original store date to 1994. The brand later expanded internationally, but New York remained its historical center.

The founding year is also distinct from the opening years of Supreme stores in Japan, Europe, and other markets. Those international launches happened later and are separate milestones in the company’s history.
