Metallica’s The Black Album was remastered and reissued in an expanded box set in 2021.
The reissue marked the album’s 30th anniversary. The remastered edition was released on September 10, 2021, and included the original album alongside a large archive of additional material.
The limited box set contained the remastered album on double LP and CD, three live LPs, fourteen CDs, six DVDs, and other physical items. The extra recordings included demos, live performances, and previously unreleased content connected with the album era.
This anniversary project was separate from The Metallica Blacklist, a 2021 covers album featuring artists performing songs from The Black Album. Both projects celebrated the same milestone, but only the expanded box set presented the band’s own archival recordings and remastered original album.
