In what year was Fleetwood Mac formed?
Answer
1967
Answer
1967
Fleetwood Mac was formed in 1967, in London, England.
The band emerged from the British blues scene after guitarist and vocalist Peter Green left John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. He formed the new group with drummer Mick Fleetwood, slide guitarist Jeremy Spencer, and bassist Bob Brunning. John McVie joined shortly afterward, replacing Brunning on bass.
The band's first public performance took place on August 13, 1967, at the National Jazz and Blues Festival. It was initially billed as “Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer,” reflecting Green's leadership and the group's early blues orientation.
The name had actually been conceived before the final lineup was settled. Green combined the surnames of Fleetwood and McVie in the title of an instrumental recording, hoping to persuade McVie to join. Fleetwood Mac's self-titled debut album followed in 1968. A common mix-up is using 1968 because that was the year of the debut album, not the band's formation.
