Twitter officially changed its company name to X Corp. in 2023.
After Elon Musk completed his acquisition of Twitter in October 2022, the company was merged into a newly formed entity called X Corp. The corporate change was reported in April 2023, replacing Twitter, Inc. as the company’s legal identity.
The legal renaming preceded the public rebrand of the social platform. In July 2023, Twitter’s website and app branding began changing to X, including the replacement of the familiar bird imagery with an X logo.
The two changes are often mixed together. X Corp. refers to the company, while X refers to the consumer platform and its public brand. The transition was part of Musk’s stated plan to develop a broader “everything app,” although the platform continued to operate as a social network.
