The UK television show Dragons' Den first aired in 2005.
The programme debuted on BBC Two on 4 January 2005. Its central idea was simple but dramatic: entrepreneurs would present a business proposal to a panel of wealthy investors and request money in exchange for a percentage of the company.
The British series was adapted from the Japanese business reality format Money Tigers. It helped popularise televised investment pitches in the United Kingdom and became one of the BBC's best-known factual entertainment programmes.
The year 2005 is sometimes confused with the launch date of overseas versions. Several countries created their own editions at different times, including Canada, Australia and the United States. The UK series itself began in 2005, before many of those international adaptations. The show has since featured numerous permanent and guest Dragons, but its basic pitch-and-negotiate structure has remained recognisable.
