The Arsenio Hall Show premiered in 1989.
The late-night talk show debuted in January 1989 in first-run syndication, with comedian and actor Arsenio Hall as host. Unlike a network program, it was sold directly to local television stations, allowing it to air at different times in different markets.
The program became known for its energetic studio audience, celebrity interviews, musical guests and appeal to younger viewers. Hall’s conversational style helped distinguish the show from established network formats led by hosts such as Johnny Carson and David Letterman.
The original series ended in 1994 after five seasons. A revival, also titled The Arsenio Hall Show, ran during the 2013–2014 television season. The two versions are often confused, but the original show’s premiere year was 1989.
