The first Forza Motorsport game launched in 2005.
Forza Motorsport was released for the original Xbox in May 2005. Turn 10 Studios developed it as a simulation-focused racing game, with licensed cars, circuit racing and vehicle tuning designed to compete with established console racing series.
The game was published by Microsoft Game Studios and became the foundation of the Forza brand. Its successor series, Forza Horizon, later expanded the formula into open-world driving, but the original Forza Motorsport remained focused on closed racing circuits.
The year can be confused with later entries because the franchise has released across several Xbox generations. Forza Motorsport 2 arrived on Xbox 360 in 2007, while Forza Motorsport 3 followed in 2009. The original title belongs to the first Xbox generation and predates those numbered sequels.
